Great GPS with 2 minor issues August 25, 2010 Timothy W Wales (Greer, SC, US) The Garmin Nuvi 295W is very compact and routing nearly perfect. Overall the unit performs very well with accurate spoken street names and destinations. Traveled thru SC, NC, TN, KY, GA recently and did not have any issues the instructions and routing was most efficient route to each destination. The WiFi capability is nice for finding local restaurants and stores after locating a wi-fi hotspot. The Micro SD card is great for music, photos and adding your own points of interest. (Note headphones are needed for music). Time to locate satellites and get past warning screens is a little longer than other Garmin models.
Two issues that may be a deal breaker for some: Very small speaker so sound /voice is difficult to hear at highway speeds or with radio on. Lane Assist is not available with this unit and with the small screen it is sometimes difficult to choose correct lane for exits.
Neat little GPS August 22, 2010 JEKirby 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this GPS for three reasons: ability to plan/optimize routes, size and price. I feel I got a pretty good deal. It works as well or better than my Nuvi 350. The voice is a little more mechanical than the Nuvi 350, but it is clear and understandable. I did not get it for its wifi capability, but I noticed I cannot connect to one of networks I routinely use. When connected, it has some cool features and works well. The screen is not so small to be unusable. In fact, turned vertical it is really delivers more usable route information than even a wide screen GPS. The speaker is kind of weak, just like a cell phone on 'speaker phone', so it I use it with an FM modulator in the car. I do use this for a motorcycle, so it plays through an amplifier and helmet speakers and works well. I have a MacBook Pro and use Road Trip. The connectivity to a Mac works well once you download support software/drivers(?) from Garmin. I opted for this GPS over the Nuvi 37xx series as it has a resistive screen and I could use it with gloves. Compared to other GPS's it was a pretty good buy, price compared to features.
Decent buy August 22, 2010 Dan 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm an EMT in a rural area where I haven't lived for very long. I needed something to help me find my way through country backroads fast and efficiently, and this fits the bill for the most part. The main problems I've had are that it can take a while to locate satellites at first if it hasn't been turned on for a while, which in most applications wouldn't be much of a problem, as at most it's a minute and a half. The next is it doesn't turn with you, which can be briefly confusing if you have to take two quick turns, and change a lane in the process (i.e. a right and a quick left, I get stuck in the right lane). Speaker could be a little louder, as well. Then the last is NO FLASH (programming, or photography). Not much of a problem as it's not it's main purpose, but worth mentioning.
The good parts- Re-routes very fast and effectively, it detoured me very well around flooding with minimal input from me. Very fast web connection, decent signal. Touchscreen works flawlessly and inputs quickly. It's sleek, about the same size as an Android, with very intuitive programming. Have not used the camera much, but it's a nice touch, and 2MP is as much as I'd need on a day to day basis.
In short, it's extremely fast except when initially acquiring satellites after being off for a while, has plenty of features, and is very well programmed. It works well for what I need it for and was a great buy for the one day deal I purchased it for. At full price I would have expected a little more, however.
Compact portable GPS August 20, 2010 Calvin H. Long (HI , USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Received the unit within time promised in good condition from the recycleable packing !This GPS is pocket size and it looks and feels like a phone rather than a GPS unit just exactly as the early garmin phone !I've tested the unit and quite satisfy with some minor complaints .The volume is low as reviews posted (turn off radio or windows closed would help) The touch screen slide menu easily mistaken to activate (touching the space in between icons would help) The battery in stand-by mode won't last as suggested and gone dead in 3 days !In the plus side ,it comes with bunch of bonus features beside GPS function like camera ,calculator ,calendar ,converter ,world clock ,note pad ,MP3 player ....
Such of extra bonuses to go along with GPS and a good deal purchase price ,I'm completely a happy camper .....
High quality and nice new features added August 20, 2010 RJRSW 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned a few Garmin's and really apreciated the versatility of this new model. Works great in the car but also better for walking around than the other units were. The email was easy to set up and connecting to wifi sites is also easy. Like having a mini laptop with you.
